THE COFFEE PLANT IS AN EVERGREEN BUSH…
...belonging to the Rubiaceus family, Coffea species. Today, its two prime cultivated
species are Coffea Arabica and Coffea Canephora, also called ‘Robusta’. In Abyssinia,
where the plant has its origins, it grows spontaneously. In other cultivation areas—primarily
those with a tropical climate—the plant was exported and grown by farmers.

Its fruit (drupe) is similar to a cherry and it contains two beans surrounded by
a membrane called ‘parchment’ and a silvery film. The plant only begins producing
its fruit after three years, but it continues producing for a long time, even dozens
of years.
